Frankie Rogers, a young boy from a troubled home, is sent to reform school after stealing a harmonica. Despite his best efforts, he is sentenced to prison for defending a fellow inmate from a cruel guard. After serving his time, Frankie tries to start anew in Cleveland with his friend Carol, who is a struggling singer. However, his past catches up with him when his friends from prison commit a crime, leading to Frankie's wrongful conviction and sentence to death. As his friends try to help him, Frankie escapes and returns to his old school for a reunion, where he ultimately meets his tragic end.
