To escape an unwanted marriage, Sarah flees to Vienna with her music teacher Carl, whom she loves, and they get married. A Viennese Baron helps them, but his motives are questionable, ultimately leading to Carl's demise in a sword fight. Despite this, a big producer puts on the operetta, with Sarah starring, but her bittersweet triumph is tinged by her husband's absence.
