By 1870, a decade of brutal conflict between settlers and Cochise's Apaches has left a deep scar. Tom Jeffords, a former soldier, is forced to reevaluate his views on Native Americans after saving the life of an Apache boy. He decides to take a chance and become an ambassador between the two warring factions, facing incredible odds to initiate a dialogue with Cochise. Just as Jeffords's mission seems to be gaining traction, the president sends General Howard to conclude a peace treaty, but the lingering resentment and hatred on both sides threaten to derail the fragile peace.
