Matt Brennan reunites with Jo Holloway, a Red Cross volunteer he fell for in Europe during World War II, when he becomes a test pilot for a jet manufacturer. However, his new role is complicated by Carl Troxell's plan to sell an escape cockpit to the Air Force, which requires Matt to delay the presentation of the prototype, the JA-3, to give Troxell time to develop a safer alternative, the JA-4.
