Chess Story

A prisoner of war, a lawyer, finds solace in the strategic game of chess as a coping mechanism against the brutal tactics of the Gestapo, who are determined to break his spirit.

As Nazi forces occupy Vienna, lawyer Josef Bartok attempts to flee to the USA with his wife, but is caught by the Gestapo and imprisoned. Despite being subjected to intense psychological torture, Bartok refuses to betray his clients' secrets. Months later, he discovers an old book about chess, which sparks a newfound obsession that ultimately helps him overcome his torment.
