In 1944, British Intelligence attempts to deceive the Germans about the location of the Allied landings in Normandy by sending a British officer to Pas-De-Calais, France, with false information. The officer, Canadian Captain Paul Raine, is chosen for his bilingual skills and familiarity with France. He falls in love with Lucy, a secretary who is secretly assessing him, but she knows the truth about his mission and is torn between her feelings and her duty to send him to his death.
