Twelve-year-old Annie Lamm's summer break turns into a disaster when her parents send her to spend half the summer with her 76-year-old Grandpa Donald, whom she hardly knows, on Hilton Head Island. Annie's plans of parties and boys are dashed when she discovers Grandpa's dilapidated house has no TV, computer, or pool. She's miserable and tries to find a way back to New York, but ends up discovering a hidden fishing skiff and making a plan to run away to the Greyhound station.
