The Black Bear Ranch Commune, established in 1968, introduced an unconventional way of living in Northern California's isolated wilderness.

In the late 1960s, a group of free thinkers purchased 80 acres of land in California's Siskiyou County, establishing Big Bear Ranch, a commune dedicated to the motto "free land for free people."
