In the aftermath of World War I, a German mine is divided by the new border between Germany and France. When a fire erupts in the French section, German miners rush to assist their French counterparts, but three of their number, who had a rough experience at a French inn the night before, decide to take matters into their own hands and navigate an old tunnel to rescue their trapped colleagues, while the official rescue team races against time to reach them.
