A schooner vanishes without a trace, leaving behind only speculation about its fate. Years later, a tuna boat is hired by the mother of Jose, the schooner's mate, after discovering possible signs of survivors. They locate Jose living contentedly on a South Seas island, but when he refuses to leave with them, they resort to abduction. Jose exacts revenge by guiding the ship into the lair of a massive, enigmatic manta ray.
