Aspiring animator Gord leaves his Oregon home to sell his ideas to Hollywood, but after being rejected, he returns home and faces increased mistreatment from his unpleasant father. Meanwhile, Gord falls for a doctor in a wheelchair who enjoys being beaten with a bamboo cane, and he gets a chance to create a winning animated series, "Zebras in America," based on his own family.
