A young orca whale, separated from his parents, finds himself in a fish bowl at a marina, where he befriends a street kid who has been caught vandalizing the area. The boy, with the help of his social worker, agrees to clean up the mess in exchange for avoiding punishment. As they work together, the boy teaches the whale tricks, which impress the marina owner. However, when the whale fails to perform in front of an audience, the owner plots to harm the whale, prompting the boy and his friends to launch a daring rescue mission.
