In this film, a young woman becomes entangled in a toxic relationship with a wealthy and much older man, played by Nastassja Kinski. Despite her willingness to do anything to prove her love, the man's true intentions are sinister, and he manipulates her into visiting a Chinese brothel. Meanwhile, a poor young boy falls in love with the woman and joins a revolutionary group to earn the money needed to be with her. The movie also explores the tragic fate of several other prostitutes.
