A young orphan named Pip lives with the blacksmith Joe Gargery and his wife, who is abusive. Pip's life takes a dramatic turn when he befriends two escaped convicts and steals food for them. Later, Pip is invited to play with Estella, the adopted daughter of the wealthy and reclusive Miss Havisham. Despite being warned that Estella is arrogant and will break his heart, Pip falls deeply in love with her.
