Harishchandrachi Factory background

Harishchandrachi Factory

India's cinema industry was born in 1913 with the creation of Raja Harishchandra, the country's first feature-length black-and-white silent film, marking a pioneering effort in the country's film history.

Dadasaheb Phalke, a former printing business owner, abandoned his business after a disagreement with his partner, vowing to never compete with him again. Unemployed and struggling to support his family, Phalke discovered a silent motion picture being screened at a tent theater, which sparked his interest in filmmaking. Alongside his wife and children, he embarked on an unprecedented journey to create India's first feature film, "Raja Harishchandra". The Phalke family faced numerous challenges, both humorous and serious, but ultimately produced the country's first film, which became a massive hit.
