Marvin Hacks, a 40-year-old man, is released from prison after 20 years and returns to his hometown of Clovis, where he is met with resentment and anger due to a tragic event from his past. Despite this, he tries to rebuild his life, reconnecting with his terminally ill mother and forming a connection with Delta, a young woman who is unaware of his dark past. However, Delta is part of the Flintow family, who were directly affected by Marvin's crime, and they make it clear that he is not welcome in the town. Marvin is determined to face the consequences of his actions, regardless of the cost.
