Percy Fitzpatrick, a 20-year-old, embarks on a journey from Cape Town to the Transvaal in search of gold in 1886. Along the way, he rescues a puppy named Jock from drowning and decides to keep him. However, they arrive to find that the gold has been depleted. Percy takes on a foreman role and he and Jock face numerous thrilling escapades involving wild animals and harsh slave drivers.
