In the 1950s, Tobias Schneebaum, a painter, spent seven months with the Harakambut in the Amazon basin. After returning to the US, he lost his ability to paint. Years later, filmmakers asked Tobias, now 78 and suffering from Parkinson's, to revisit Peru, but he refused. He agreed to return to New Guinea, where he had a idyllic experience, and reunited with an old friend and lover, Aipit. Later, he agreed to go back to Peru to find the people he had joined on a deadly raiding party, still haunted by the scars of war and fear.
