King Richard the Lionheart and other European monarchs are in the Holy Land to retake Jerusalem from the Saracens in 1191. However, infighting and treachery occur among the European nobles, with Sir Giles Amaury and Conrad plotting to assassinate the King. A Saracen doctor, recruited by Sir Kenneth of the Leopard, helps heal the wounded King, who later banishes Sir Kenneth for wanting to marry Lady Edith Plantagenet.
