The aging Giacomo Casanova, impoverished and seeking redemption, returns to Venice after years of wandering Europe. He meets Marcelina, a young woman who rejects his affections despite his displays of love. When Lorenzo, her lover, confesses his gaming debts, Casanova helps him in exchange for information about Marcelina's secret tryst. Under the cover of night, Casanova takes Lorenzo's place and finally seduces Marcelina. However, Lorenzo later feels his honor has been compromised and demands satisfaction.
