In 1954, Colonel Pierre-Noel Raspeguy leads his paratroopers in the decisive battle of Dien Bien Phu against the Communist Viet Minh. Despite being outnumbered, they face a major assault, but a token force of paratroopers and ammunition arrives too late. The French garrison is overrun, and Raspeguy and his men are taken prisoner.
