Madadayo

A professor in his twilight years finds new purpose and joy in his writing and the admiration of his students as they celebrate his birthday in post-war Tokyo.

Professor Uehida Hyakken-sama, a university professor, leaves his post after an air raid and becomes a writer, living in a hut. Despite time passing, his mood remains unchanged. Every year, his students celebrate his birthday, asking "Mahda kai?" and he responds with "Madada yo!", affirming his desire to last forever. The film showcases everyday Japanese life and customs.
