Marie Ragghianti, a single mother of three, starts anew in Tennessee after leaving an abusive marriage. She earns a degree in English and Psychology while working as a waitress. Marie lands a job as Extradition Officer under Governor Ray Blanton's counsel, Eddie Sisk. She quickly rises through the ranks, becoming Parole Board Chief, but her relationships with Eddie and the Governor become increasingly uneasy.
