Lenny Freeman, a struggling accountant, sets out to pursue his dream of becoming a famous stand-up comedian in Las Vegas. After his mother's death, he inherits her debt and a vintage Oldsmobile, and he embarks on a road trip to audition for a prestigious comedy competition. Along the way, he meets a mysterious traveler named Hitch, and their journey takes a dark turn when they stop at a small-town bar. Lenny's comedy career takes an unexpected turn when he accidentally kills a heckler, and he and Hitch are forced to go on the run. As the body count rises, Lenny tries to escape his psychotic sidekick and make it to Vegas with the girl of his dreams. But Hitch won't let him go, and the duo's deadly game of cat and mouse has an unexpected side effect - Lenny's comedy is actually improving.
