Komitas, a frail and weak boy, was born in 1869 in the Armenian homeland of the Turkish Ottoman Empire. Despite his humble circumstances, his perfect singing voice brought him to the Holy See of Echmiadzin, where he studied music at colleges in Tiflis, Constantinople, Berlin, and Paris.
