A young couple with a baby embark on a journey from Detroit to California, seeking a better life. However, their dreams are put in jeopardy when they're robbed of their savings by a shady gas-station owner in a small Texas town. Struggling to make ends meet, the husband is forced to make a difficult choice to earn some quick cash, which puts him at risk of getting into trouble with the law. Meanwhile, the wife finds work as a waitress, but she's also caught in the crosshairs of the gas-station owner's dubious intentions.
