Two sisters, Henriette and Louise, are raised together, with Henriette vowing to care for Louise after she loses her sight. They travel to Paris in search of a cure, but are separated when Henriette is abducted by an aristocrat. She finds solace with Chevalier de Vaudrey, and they fall in love. However, their happiness is short-lived as the French Revolution takes hold, and de Vaudrey is condemned to death for being an aristocrat.
