In a New York apartment building, a timid man named Arthur lives with his controlling wife Mae. The building is home to other quirky residents, including a free-spirited artist and his model, and a tipsy Greenwich Village woman named Olive. When Olive passes out at Arthur's apartment, he mistakenly thinks she's dead and leaves her on the artist's balcony. The artist takes advantage of the situation, using it to blackmail Arthur, but Olive's unexpected behavior thwarts the plan.
