On an African safari, Clyde Beatty and his friend Grant plan to buy lions from Jo Carter, but a fire wipes out her animals. Despite rival dealer Gorman's interference, Beatty saves Jo's business by capturing a gorilla. Later, Grant falls ill after a tsetse fly bite, and Beatty heads to the nearest hospital through Matabele territory. They are captured and sentenced to death by Grubbs, a white man living with the tribe and stealing their gold.
