Jeremy Wales, a cunning crook, deceives John "Dad" Saunders into signing a $10,000 note instead of the $1,000 Saunders borrowed to work on his "Rose o' My Heart" mine. Phil Lee, a young rancher known for his quick problem-solving skills, helps Saunders and retrieves the note by battling Jeremy's son and henchmen. Lee then rescues a girl from a holdup and discovers it's a movie scene. The actress, Rose Campbell, is impressed and invites him to a dance. As they get closer, Lee learns Rose is searching for her grandfather, John Saunders, who she hasn't seen since her mother's death. Lee agrees to take her to him, but Sam Wales and his henchmen capture Lee, tie him up, and take Rose away, claiming Lee is a two-bit swindler trying to cheat her grandfather.
