Time Orbs, machines that enable short-term time travel, are successfully developed by Speed's dad. One is installed in Speed's car to prevent crashes, but after a thunderbolt strikes, Speed and his team are sent far into the future. They meet Sparky's son, who reveals their future selves' plan to stop Leland from building robots to take over humans. To return home, they need an energy source to power the orb. Speed decides to compete in the Superdome 1000 against robot drivers to win the necessary funds. They then work to thwart Leland's evil plan.
