Gene Autry's horse Champion is stolen by three escaped convicts, Jake Fargon, Pete Reagon, and Charlie Lewis, who were previously imprisoned by City Marshal Steve Autry for stealing $30,000 from a bonanza king. Gene sets out to track them down, finding them in a ghost town where they've hidden the loot. He also reunites with the loot's original owner, Big Tim Hanlon, and a school teacher named Ruth Lambert. However, the convicts are hot on their heels, leading to a thrilling chase through the abandoned buildings.
