Robinson Crusoe on Mars

Commander Christopher 'Kit' Draper and Colonel Dan McReady's spaceship, Mars Gravity Probe 1, crashes on Mars, leaving them stranded. Draper survives, finds oxygen, and befriends a monkey named Mona. He discovers that he can breathe Martian air briefly, but needs oxygen supplements. After a long period of solitude, Draper spots a new spacecraft landing on Mars, only to find it's occupied by aliens, some of whom are slaves. One of these aliens, who Draper names Friday, flees and seeks refuge with him. Now, Draper must find a way to escape and return to Earth.
