In 1908, Lord Burnstead's butler Ruggles is brought to Red Gap, Washington by Egbert and Effie Floud. Effie hopes to use Ruggles' refined background to improve her husband's rustic lifestyle, but Egbert is more interested in partying. After becoming a local celebrity, Ruggles befriends a widow who is impressed by his cooking skills and decides to open his own restaurant.
