Sidney Toler stars as Charlie Chan, a Chinese detective, in this movie, as he takes on a murder case in San Francisco. Along the way, he meets a woman searching for her missing daughter and a young man searching for his missing fiancée. Their investigations lead them to discover that they are both looking for the same girl, Mary Conover. As Charlie digs deeper, he uncovers a sinister murder gang that has been using life insurance to fund its crimes.
