Silence

Two Jesuit priests embark on a perilous journey in 17th century Japan to find their mentor, who is believed to have lost his faith, amidst a culture that fiercely resists Catholicism.

Two Portuguese Catholic priests, Sebastião Rodrigues and Francisco Garupe, travel to Japan in 1633 to investigate the disappearance of their mentor, Father Cristovão Ferreira. They arrive to find a land of brutal anti-Christian purges, where they witness the suffering of those who believe differently. As they try to locate Ferreira, they are faced with the ultimate test of faith: renounce their beliefs or watch as innocent people are tortured and killed.
