In the 1890s, a young porter named Bob Gregson works at a rural railway station, seeking to impress the stationmaster and win the heart of his beloved teacher, Harriet Collins. Bob's goal is to save the local orphanage, where he was raised, from being sold by a ruthless businessman. He finds a talented Jack Russell terrier, Station Jim, in a crate and showcases its tricks to attract passengers. When Queen Victoria is scheduled to visit the station, Bob sees an opportunity to persuade her to support the orphanage. However, unknown to him, anti-royalist terrorists plan to assassinate the queen, but Station Jim, recognizing its former circus owner, foils the attempt and saves the day.
