In the midst of war-torn France, a determined housewife transforms into a shrewd businesswoman after her injured husband's return, leveraging her resourcefulness to overcome the struggles of war.

During World War II, a woman named Marie Latour raises her two children in a small flat in occupied France. When her husband Paul returns from German captivity, he's too weak to work, and Marie discovers a way to make money by performing abortions. As she becomes more successful, she's able to improve her living situation and even rent out her home to prostitutes during the day.
