A cynical private eye narrates a story that begins with a woman running over a man and cradling his head as he dies. The story then flashes back six months to the seemingly perfect Harris family, where an affair between the husband and a new receptionist is about to be revealed. The private eye, Bobbi Bocha, is hired by the wife and also advises her daughter on the potential downsides of marriage, while an elephant is used as a symbol of loyalty.
