In the midst of World War II, a romantic connection forms between a French local and a German soldier, amidst the turmoil of occupied France.
In occupied France, 1940, a woman named Lucile Angellier is confined to a life of boredom and control by her mother-in-law, awaiting news of her husband, a prisoner of war. The town is soon flooded with Parisian refugees and German soldiers, who take up residence in the villagers' homes.
