A gangster's moll is murdered at a rural Georgia motel, leading to the accused fleeing and a sheriff's pursuit through the Okefenokee Swamp. Along the way, the sheriff must also rescue a singer from bootleggers and navigate a rivalry for the affections of a woman, while the accused fugitive teams up with her to clear his name and uncover the true killer.
