A weary gunslinger, tired of constant confrontations, assumes a new identity and continues his travels. He intervenes in a robbery at an outpost, agreeing to escort the young son to his uncle, a sheriff in Table Rock, for his safety. Upon arrival, he finds the town preparing for a cattle drive and a rowdy group of cowboys, and struggles to remain neutral as the sheriff seeks his assistance in managing the situation.
