The Carabineers background

The Carabineers

Deceived farmers, desperate for a better life, are swindled by cunning soldiers who spin tales of luxury and adventure, while the soldiers secretly pen letters to their wives about their supposed exploits in a war-torn land.

Two brothers, Ulysses and Michel-Ange, are recruited by soldiers during war, promising wealth and riches. Their greedy family members encourage them to enlist, and they become ruthless war criminals in Italy. After Ulysses is injured, they return home with a small fortune and a promise of land ownership, but discover the war has ended in surrender, and they must face the consequences of their actions.
