When a British tourist is kidnapped in Rome, a cunning criminal known as The Card Player issues a sinister challenge to the police department. He proposes a game of video poker, where the stakes are the victim's life. As the game unfolds, the victim is brutally tortured and killed online, prompting the Chief of Police to refuse further participation. A British detective is sent to Rome to investigate, and as the case unfolds, another woman is kidnapped.
