The promoter of the Lucky Legs Contest, Frank Patton, has a habit of fleeing town before paying the $1000 prize to the winner. When Mr. Bradbury, a suitor of the Cloverdale winner Margie, hires Perry Mason to track down Frank, Perry discovers the scheme and has his associate Spudsy locate Frank. However, when Perry arrives, he finds Frank dead, with a surgeon's scalpel as the murder weapon, but the identity of the killer remains unknown.
