In 1934, the baron invites his family to dinner, where they're joined by a Nazi-ascending cousin and a rising executive from the baron's company. Two young girls recite poetry and play hide-and-seek with their cousin Martin. Chaos erupts when a scream fills the air, and the baron is found shot with his own gun, prompting their father to flee the country.
