The Gay Intruders background

The Gay Intruders

A couple's therapy sessions with a married therapist couple take an unexpected turn as their own marital problems start to unravel, putting their own relationship and the couple's therapy at risk.

John Newberry and his wife Maria Ivar's criticisms of each other's acting spark a domestic battle, leading their manager Charles MacNulty to suggest psychiatry. Each secretly consults a doctor, with John meeting Dr. Harold Matson and Maria meeting Dr. Susan Nash. The doctors, posing as old friends and a sister, make progress with the couple, helping them discover the joy of saying nice things to each other. However, when MacNulty presents a play with unsavory characters, John and Maria refuse to play them, leading to a verbal battle and the revelation of the doctors' true identities.
