A former baseball player turned peanut vendor, Coop, passes on his passion for the game to his son Christie. When Coop gets fired, Christie befriends the niece of the former team owner and her boyfriend Pete, and helps get his dad's job back and a batboy position for himself. With his dad's guidance, Christie starts making suggestions, and as a publicity stunt, the team makes him their youngest manager on record. When Christie falls ill, Coop must come to the rescue.
