Young Sara Crewe's life takes a drastic turn when her father, Captain Crewe, goes missing in action during the Boer War. After being placed in the care of Amanda Minchin, the head of an exclusive private school, Sara's life of luxury gives way to one of poverty and servitude as a housemaid. Despite her new circumstances, Sara refuses to accept her father's presumed death and embarks on a quest to find him, eventually receiving a boost from royal intervention.
