In 1941 Ireland, a small IRA cell is recruited to aid the country's struggle with Great Britain, with a tentative bond formed with Nazi Germany. The group is led by Don McGinnis, a physically and morally compromised individual, who sends others on violent raids despite his own disability. Among the recruits is Dermot O'Neill, who wants to free Ireland from Britain but is unsure about the means.
